Entry into the Wellington Youth Art Prize is free and open to all young people aged between 12–25 years of age on 1 July 2024, who currently live, study or work in the Wellington Shire, or have studied in Wellington Shire in the past four years.
The 2024 theme for works is " ”. Entries will be judged against this criterion.
An independent judging panel will meet and select winners in all award categories. The panel’s decision will be final, and entrants agree that there will be no further correspondence or dispute related to the decision.
All entries must be the original work of the submitting artist and have been produced after 1 January 2023.
Artists may submit only one entry.
All entries must be submitted online at
www.gippslandartgallery.com/prizes/wellington-youth-art-prize no later than midnight, Sunday 15 September 2024. No late entries will be accepted. A printed copy of your entry form must be securely attached and submitted with your artwork.
Dimensions for 2D and 3D artworks must not exceed 1 square meter, including frame if applicable.
All entries must be ready to hang and or display. Entries that are not framed or mounted will be pinned by the corners.
Works on paper without frames must be mounted on foam-core or be able to be pinned directly to a wall. Works on canvas must be mounted on a stretcher frame. Video must be a maximum of 6 minutes and provided on a DVD or as MP4 on USB.
No unprotected glass edges or wet paintings will be accepted, and works may be rejected due to poor presentation.
All entries received will be exhibited for the duration of the exhibition, except in any cases where the Gallery considers an exhibit artwork to be defamatory, likely to cause offence, or poorly presented.
Entries are required to remain on display for the duration of the exhibition.
Entrants agree to allow Wellington Shire Council and the Gippsland Art Gallery to photograph and reproduce their work without fee for the purposes of promoting the Gallery, Wellington Youth Art Prize and Youth activities generally with full attribution to the artist.
Entries must be dropped off between Thursday 19 September and Monday 23 September 2024 to the Gippsland Art Gallery or any Wellington Shire Library during normal opening hours. Entries delivered after closing time Monday 23 September will not be accepted. Gippsland Art Gallery is located at the Port of Sale, Wellington Centre, 70 Foster Street, Sale and opening hours are 9.00am - 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 10.00am - 4.00pm Saturday and Sunday. Library opening hours vary – please consult the
website for locations, opening days and hours.
At the conclusion of the exhibition, entries will be returned to their collection point (Gippsland Art Gallery or Library) and will be available for collection during normal opening hours between Wednesday 20-27 November 2024. Entries not collected during this time will be disposed of at the organiser’s discretion.
Whilst care will be taken to minimise risk of damage to artworks, competition organisers will not be responsible for damage or breakages.
No fee will be taken by the Gippsland Art Gallery or organisers if any artist wishes to sell their work. All entries must clearly state if the artwork is for sale and if so, the price to purchase.
